Movie – Gone Girl [REVIEW] – You Don’t Know What You’ve Got ’til It’s…

IMDB Rating: 8,1/10
Genre: Crime, Drama, Mystery
Director: David Fincher
Writer: Gillian Flynn
Stars: Ben AffleckRosamund PikeNeil Patrick Harris

Warning, this review contains spoiler!

Gone Girl is a film directed by David Fincher. You certainly know who’s David Fincher because the typical style of his films always has memorable noir nuances, especially for this film too. Gone Girl is one example of a thriller movie that brings back the noir nuances in this modern age. This movie is an adaptation of the novel entitled same by Gillian Flynn. I already know how the result is if directed by David Fincher. His films always have a distinct impression from the music that he uses, the setting nuances he describes, in his cinematography how he defines the gloomy atmosphere. David Fincher’s films I’ve watched and reviewed ’till now are Fight Club, Se7en, and The Social Network. Gone Girl is the fourth movie I will review this time.

“Gone Girl,” tells about Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) and Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) on their fifth wedding anniversary. On that day, Amy Dunne revealed gone. Under the control of a detective and the media who always dropped him, Nick was described as a man who killed his wife even though he didn’t know anything about it. His calm personality like a braggart bring herself to everyone who has the same question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

Ben Affleck, Lisa Banes, and David Clennon in Gone Girl (2014)

Gone Girl brings some of its actors who I think, almost suffocated like Ben Affleck, although his career as Batman in Justice League and Batman v Superman is rising his name back. Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tyler Perry also starred in this film. I’ve known this movie because David Fincher himself, read all of the reviews and some opinions about the people who’ve watched, and recommended by my friend too. If from the audience’s outlook, I think they say the same points about the ending that they think is anti-climactic. In fact, it’s like that. Gone Girl itself has also received many positive reviews from critics at Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb itself also has a high rating. But, what makes Gone Girl a movie with such a rating that so high? The opening scene is so depressing, typical of David Fincher himself. With the distinctive cinematography, he describes a dark city as if it were like a haunted city. The music was also composed as darkly and quietly as possible by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Gone Girl presumably uses the hallmark of David Fincher himself as nonlinear, although some of his films didn’t use the same thing. The plot story will often change back and forth during watching this movie. The story sessions will be divided according to the two scenes such as Nick Dunne and Amy Dunne. From Nick Dunne’s viewpoint, he tells that his wife as a very introverted person, blogger, and has no friends at all whereas according to Amy Dunne, she describes her husband as a lazy, rude person, and only makes herself a sexual encounter. From this two perspectives, there will be pros and cons that who are the villains in this movie. When the beginning of the film, the audience will surely know that Nick Dunne must be the person who killed his wife and the story will bring the resentment of his audience as possible. However, the story will change according to Amy’s perspective how this case is started and the audience will soon find out. From here, David Fincher instantly brings up the plot-twist even though is half the duration of this movie runs away and hasn’t been into climax at all. In this viewpoint, Amy turns out to manipulate her murder, her loss, and the whole thing that happen in this movie. In essence, Amy has manipulated the people around her including her audience. I was also immediately confused why David Fincher immediately upped the punchline in the middle of the movie. But, there is more to be discussed.

Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl (2014)

After these two points of view are told, these two characters will solve each problem. Nick with his problem of how he can get his name back and Amy with the problem of how she wants to build her plan back. If you are so curious, maybe I suggest you to watching the movie itself because this is still nearly story. In this film, Gillian Flynn may want to describe how the real woman and man figure, according to her. This film describes the women figure if according to Gillian Flynn, don’t judge the book by its cover. Although’s pretty, Amy is a psychopath that haunt her husband and Nick is an innocent but is abandoned by many people. I think there is a hidden message that Gillian Flynn wants to convey about how we estimate each other, especially by its gender and emancipation. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are actors who smashed into each other in this film. Ben Affleck pulled out everything in this movie. He describes his character as a sociopath, according to the people in this film. His character is so awakened in such a way from a person who doesn’t care and looks calm to a character that looks restless so we as an audience sometimes also sympathize with this character, although there are some that I feel annoying as well. Rosamund Pike is also like that. The character that she built was a double-faced person, a psychopath who was able to manipulate the people around her including her husband. David Fincher also put in Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry, I think he’s so awesome and brilliant in this movie. Although he’s only a support character, he can maximize everything. Neil Patrick Harris is such a way. However, he seems unsuitable for a movie like this even though he gets a small portion in this movie. According to Gillian Flynn, maybe she also wants to tell us about a reality from the media. Media that always strike innocent people and can manipulate their readers. I think, she also wants to convey this message so that we can know how the media is so hard to believe that hoaxes are scattered everywhere. I don’t recommend this movie to you who are not yet 18 years old because there are so many explicit scenes everywhere considering this movie is also a bit violent.

Overall, Gone Girl is an example of a movie that redefines the modern noir element. David Fincher with his cinematography and the distinctive nuance has managed to make Gone Girl like a movie with a dark and gloomy felt just like all of his movies. With a story that can manipulate his audience, Ben Affleck returns with his sociopath character and Rosamund Pike with his psychopath character. Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris have also played well here. This is a movie that people really need to watch, considering this movie can also make some of the audience will get dozy and will regret its anti-climactic ending. But, this movie is very good for you who haven’t watch it.

Movie – American History X [REVIEW] – Violence As A Way Of Life

IMDB Rating: 8,1/10
Genre: Crime, Drama
Director: Tony Kaye
Writer: David McKenna
Stars: Edward NortonEdward FurlongBeverly D’Angelo

This review contain spoilers!

Racism is something that will always exist inside each of individual human being either directly or indirectly. A racist will not be defeated in human beings even if the government makes some rules about it, the racist will never disappear. In my opinion, the only way that these things would separate from each other’s human self is always positive thinking by the people around you and don’t be too fanatical with anything such as religion, color skin, or race. Speaking of racism, American History X is a movie that overall illustrates how racism is at a higher level. Initially, I’ve known about this movie a long time ago because the actor also starred by Edward Norton. However, I just watched it and this movie impersonates everything. Whatever is in American History X, don’t take seriously what you want to see in this movie because the level of racism is so high that I don’t recommend for those of you who are easy to be triggered or can’t think critically in inspecting the situation.

“American History X,” tells about a bald neo-nazi named Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton) killing two black people who tried to steal his car. This killing was not done by the ordinary way but sadistic by Derek. Derek eventually served his sentence in prison for three more years. His brother named Danny Vinyard (Edward Furlong) was originally a very innocent person but so admired his brother. He finally begins to follow in his brother’s path as a neo-nazi. After Derek stepped out of prison, for some reason he tried to protect his younger brother so that he could not go beyond to choose the path and not become like him who was maligned. The fact, Derek is a leader and founder of the neoclassical group of neo-nazi KKK in the 90s.

Edward Norton in American History X (1998)

American History X is a crime drama film that’s ready to dishevel the emotions of its audience. Although the movie’s shown explicitly with a lot of inappropriate words to indecent scenes, this movie is a result of how all of the elements are blended into one on the issue of a family of too much violence, make a friends with wrong people, there’s not something bad in life, and a melancholy story that is not so powerful as it’s. Derek Vinyard is a very racist character but born in an ordinary family while Danny Vinyard is a very innocent brother character but have a big trust and respecting his brother even though he knows his characteristics like that. From what you’ve seen, you can guess if this plot will be a melancholy story but not as dramatic as you think. The movie will be told in two parts, the first part tells a flashback of this story in black and white and the second part that tells the present time in color. So, the story is somewhat similar to Memento directed by Christopher Nolan even though these two movies have no similarity to the story at all. The narrative it’s practically simple. The premise, a brother who wants to save his younger brother who took the wrong path as himself. However, the characters in this movie are not exaggerated and all of them are told in alternating and continuous. We can’t recognize which one is antagonist and protagonist in this movie because all of that will take the role in turn.

Edward Furlong and Edward Norton in American History X (1998)

Edward Norton is an actor that I’ve seen so many films in it. Right now, I just watched David Fincher’s Fight Club, Gregory Hoblit’s Primal Fear, and this movie that directed by Tony Kaye. Of all the movies I’ve watched, his acting in Primal Fear is the best. He plays two different characters in this movie, causing a plot-twist that I didn’t think that far. If talking about Edward Norton in this movie, I think he shows everything that very emotionally. Starting from his acting that makes me a little annoying, his acting that built emotional, until his innocent face when his character changes to 90 degrees. Besides, is this just a coincidence that Edward Furlong who plays Danny Vinyard has the same name at the beginning of their name? Maybe the impression was deliberately made like this in order to cause a sense of kinship that somewhat becomes emotional. Edward Furlong, I think he illustrates his acting with a full of emotions classifying from his innocent character, to badass, to turn into a person that full of irritation inside him. The soundtrack in this movie is built in such a way that adds emotional sensation. It’s tense instantly turned into music with regret and sadness inside of audience. Tony Kaye also featured cinematography that more or less added a bit of close up between characters and slow motion at least. David McKenna, also I think he didn’t pay attention to detail because the premise of the story is rather simple but neatly executed by the director. Some flaws that I found in this movie is the story at the time when approaching the climax. We know that Derek is a character who initially led his friends and betray theirs for the philanthropists of his brother. But until the end of the story, these conflicts are immediately forgotten and their characters are instantly lost from the story. Speaking of climax, this movie is one of the most fucked up ending movies I’ve ever seen. So, do I have to say is bad or anti-climax because, after that, we don’t know the answer? However, American History X also managed to make me a little concerned about this movie.

Overall, American History X is a movie with a lot of moral messages in it. Although the story plot is fairly simple and there is a lot of explicit content, it makes me my self the most mischievous person in the world. Edward Norton and Edward Furlong show everything as if it looks very emotional inside. Speaking of moral messages, there are actually a lot of things to take from this movie and can also be a reflection of life because a racist person can change at any time after knowing whether his nature is better for everyone. This movie will make you guys feel guilty and this movie also again I don’t recommend for you who are easily butthurt or anything.

Movie – Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind [REVIEW] – Would You Erase Me?

IMDB Rating: 8,3/10
Genre: Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi
Director: Michel Gondry
Writer: Charlie Kaufman
Stars: Jim CarreyKate WinsletTom Wilkinson

As we know, Jim Carrey is an actor who always takes his acting to the highly entertaining level so we are never made to stop laughing at him. Speaking of Jim Carrey, his movies like The Mask and Dumb and Dumber are the most memorable movies I ever watched as a kid. Bruce Almighty is also included but, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a movie you would never suspect. This movie, in fact, I wonder why a romance genre slips into a sci-fi genre in it. Is this a swindle or is this not going to be what we think?

“Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,” tells about Joel Barish (Jim Carrey), an introvert person. One morning when he wanted to go to work, for what reason he skipped off and head straight to a shore. There, he meets an orange-dressed woman with blue dyed hair. She is Clementine Kruczynski who has the opposite characteristic of Joel. They initially chatted and dated in an ice on the Charles River. They lay there until night, Clementine wanted to visit Joel’s house. In the morning, he gets Clementine along with other people but forgets about Joel as if making himself a stranger. From here, Joel realizes that Clementine’s memory has been removed and Joel wants to do the same thing. However, Joel didn’t want to do that and began to correct his mistakes.

Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a movie that I never imagined the plot story. The premise is rather simple with a little spice psychology up to sci-fi genre in it but, this movie isn’t a romance movie you want to find. Joel Barish is an introvert person. Despite dating Clementine, he never told a story of his embarrassing moment or past experience while Clementine was an extrovert person who had always expressed Joel’s feelings for granted. So, this is like the reciprocal relationship between these two characters. Introverts and extroverts are both very unexpected characters that will be an unexpected result. Speaking of both of these characters, Jim Carrey is an actor who also I didn’t believe his figure. Although his films have always been a funny and silly character, unlike this movie. He performed all of his acting full emotionally as well as Kate Winslet who has acting reciprocally with Jim Carrey. Both of these shows all of it’s acting with full emotional so that we are also taken along as well. In addition to the two of them, the movie also stars Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst, and Tom Wilkinson. For Elijah Wood and Mark Ruffalo, I initially thought they were antagonists in this movie while performing with not too monotonous in here. Kirsten Dunst who also plays a role in the Spider-Man movie along with Tobey Maguire show her figure that I think put sympathy towards her. However, I don’t want spoilers here because once you hear a little spoiler, there will be no plot-twist for you.

Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Wilkinson in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Charlie Kaufman is a really smart guy in making a story like this. This movie presents all its scenes with full absurd to the style of non-linear storytelling in it. So, it makes no mistake if this is a romance movie with a plot-twist that I never thought too. This romance between Joel and Clementine will be told in a non-linear order in Joel’s memory at the time of the abolition of his memory. Along with this scene goes on, Joel’s past will be revealed one by one, the story from the beginning of their meeting to the cause why they can break up. There are a few moments in which this increase the emotional story that will culminate, they will tell a story that I don’t think so whether to say the movie is good, bad or both ends. Michel Gondry, I think the cinematography he’s doing is pretty good for me to enjoy because I’m not really paying attention to what’s unique. But, I admit that the cinematography he built is also good. The shooting from a frame by frame is very well taken, the close up of its characters that sometimes are from far away and also from near I feel it’s well built. Which became one of the shortcomings for myself that each scene is built as complex as possible. I think, there are some of that make me less important to show. However, it doesn’t affect everything because the movie is also not up to the duration of two hours.

Overall, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a romance movie that I never thought would just like this. Jim Carrey displays all his acting with great seriousness that seems to see the original character when compared with comedy movies that always starred. The plot of the story he built is also so absurd that we are very hard to think what really happens in this movie. Charlie Kaufman is a very worthy person to get an Oscar award. This movie is not a romance movie entirely but, this film makes everything so emotionally up to some of you will definitely cry when watching it. By the way, I also watch this movie at the time when Valentine days. So, happy Valentine day for those of you who celebrate it.

Anime – The Tatami Galaxy [REVIEW] – Opportunity Is Always Dangling In Front Of You…

MyAnimeList Rating: 8,66/10
Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Romance
Studios: Madhouse
Author: Tomihiko Morimi
Seiyuu: Shintaro Asanuma, Maaya Sakamoto, Hiroyuki Yoshino

The Tatami Galaxy is a mystery, psychological anime with a bit of romance in it directed by Masaaki Yuasa who also directed a phenomenal anime called Ping Pong The Animation. So, no wonder if these two anime actually have the same uniqueness in it, especially in the artwork. I said once when I wrote my first impression of this anime. It may also not fit what I expected but, The Galaxy Tatami is mindblowing anime with a big plot-twist in the end. It’s like combining three great movies such as Citizen Kane, Fight Club, and Interstellar even though it’s strange to be equated with these three movies but that’s my opinion. The Tatami Galaxy can be interpreter like we always facing some two or more choices in life every day and every time whether you will accept or reject them. If you accept, it may end up towards happy ending but only temporarily whereas if you refused, it will lead to the opposite. However, there are many ways to interpret how this anime works.

“The Tatami Galaxy,” tells about the narrator or we can call it Watashi (Shintaro Asanuma) is a third-year college who meets a man named Seitarou Higuchi (Keiji Fujiwara) with an egg-like chin that calls himself the god of matrimony. This encounter caused him to be in a very bitter time during the last two years for Watashi even though he only has Ozu (Hiroyuki Yoshino) as his friend, a ghoulish-looking man who wants to change Watashi’s life as much as possible. When Watashi is always on the edge of despair that leads to his breaking down, a kind junior named Akashi (Maaya Sakamoto) wants to support him as much as possible. However, Watashi was always on the unlucky path and wasted his time in that time. At the same time, he is trapped in a limbo where he always repeats the initial time that results in himself being given one more chance to repeat again.

TTG 01

So, I want to summary this. This anime tells about a single person who wants to live his college life with a beautiful and colorful story but not in accordance with his expectations. The main character is finally given one chance to repeat his life. Each episode is actually mindblowing, initially, it’s like an ordinary anime that tells about a college period that someone ends in regret. We will only always seen a scene that’s repeated over and over again like a castella cake, the ramen stall, the grandmother fortune-teller, an organization, and etc. So, it’s like typical time travels anime in general. However, the main character will experience something he never thought about and his memory will always is gone. So, don’t be surprised if you watching this anime you will always be annoyed with the choices that he always took it. The narrator or Watashi is a character figure who is always unlucky in his life. He’s always annoyed with the people he meets except for Akashi and very annoyed with Ozu although the reason Ozu wants to be friends with Watashi just because he wants to take advantage of him. In the end, is not like that. Watashi will be stuck in limbo where he thinks of something or deja vu he has ever experienced. At the same time, he realized that the way he took wasn’t in vain but rather reminiscent although for Watashi also feel a bit bitter about being remembered again. Ozu may be classified as the most annoying character ever together with Seitarou Higuchi, with his very creepy looks, his very cunning nature, and always dropping the pleasures of others. However, Ozu personality’s always changing in every episode. He’s always tricking people, cheating, dropping others, and ultimately that’s not the main point. Akashi, I think she is not too flashy with his cool character even though this character is the main point why the narrator always repeats the time.

TTG 02

Although it just 11 episodes, the storytelling is brilliant and amazing to watch. The repeated scene that we always saw in every episode is always irregular but will be combined until we think it turns out like this, like that, and so on. One of the things that interested me about this anime is the narrator will be confronted in three main heroines that he has to choose one. If he chooses this heroine, it will end like this and so on. The stories will always be repetitive but with unequal choices. The real main point that could end this endless story is the character of a fortune-teller grandmother who always says about the opportunity that always hangs in front of him. The only problem, Watashi always never realized it but once he realized it he always delayed to reach that choice. In fact, this can also be a satire in life where we as human beings always procrastinate about what we must do. I also did like that because all human is same but with the things that continue you do, it will always be a weakness and end up in the abyss of repentance. In addition, the anime is a bit insinuating about a stereotypical person’s life. Someone who always cheating others, someone who stabbing his friends, someone who is crazy with a superpower, and someone who wants to die in his life. Watashi also belongs into that category where he’s not aware the existence of other peoples around him. He always not feels grateful for his life and wants to get satisfied. In the end, he was on the edge of despair.

TTG 03

Madhouse is the studio that works on this anime. For those of you who don’t know with this studio, maybe anime like Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, One Punch Man, or Monster will make you remember it more. However, the artwork is very different from some of those anime. Perhaps its artwork is deliberately absurd to bring more sensation of its mystery element with psychological that makes us be more mindblowing again. So, this anime is actually not recommended for you who just want to judge the artwork rather than other things besides that. The opening and the ending is the best song I’ve ever heard because Asian Kung-Fu Generation is the who’s bring the opening song entitled “Maigo Inu to Ame no Beat” and Juuji Ishiwatari, Yoshinori Sunahara, and Etsuko Yakushimaru are those who sing and composer the ending song entitled “Kamisama no Iutoori.” But, there is one thing that makes me wonder with this anime that is a seiyuu who fills the voice of narrator character, Shintaro Asanuma. Although I don’t always mention or judge the seiyuu, Shintaro Asanuma can be considered very unique in carrying the voice of the main character. I mean, he also actually filled the character anime I’ve watched like Izayoi Sakamaki from Problem children are coming from another world, aren’t they?, Takatoshi Tsuda from Seitokai Yakuindomo, Takumu Mayuzumi from Accel World, Junichi Hashiba from My First Girlfriend is a Gal and other popular anime. In this anime, it’s like he is the Eminem version of anime or any rapper who talks very fast. So, don’t be surprised if you can’t keep up with the subtitles that appear too fast.

Overall, The Tatami Galaxy is a psychological anime that can be watched by all peoples. Moreover, the anime brings a lot of literary references therein. The Tatami Galaxy is arguably an anime that is a bit insinuating to our lives as well as a story that’s stuck on endless and never-ending. In life, don’t think that the choice you choose, you feel regret about this but live it according to each conscience because we don’t know what waiting in front of us. With a somewhat absurd artwork, The Tatami Galaxy brings its impression even more advanced than the other anime.

Movie – Blade Runner 2049 [REVIEW] – The Key To The Future Is Finally Unearthed

IMDB Rating: 8,3/10
Genre: Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Writer: Philip K. Dick
Stars: Harrison FordRyan GoslingAna de Armas

This is a movie that I want, a movie that shows the masterpiece with its beauty cinematographic and a visual effect that is not always unwarranted. Although this movie is not directed by Ridley Scott anymore, I just wonder about Denis Villeneuve why he can be such a genius person to make this masterpiece from a sequel of a masterpiece as well. Of course in this sequel, it still brings some elements of a city of in Los Angeles that is so bleak with the amount of pollution, smoke, filth everywhere, and all sorts of that things. And also, this movie is still cast the main actor of the prequel Harrison Ford and the sequel starring Ryan Gosling. If you haven’t watched this prequel or the movie yet, you should watch it right now because you will never see a movie as good as Blade Runner.

“Blade Runner 2049,” tells about 30 years after the incident in the first movie. Set in 2049 in the same city, a new blade runner named ‘K’ (Ryan Gosling) investigated a dark past of what had happened for 30 years. ‘K’ then finds a clue where he will run a mission to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has disappeared for 30 years.

Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas in Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Blade Runner 2049 is a sci-fi movie that still brings some elements from its first series such as the philosophy and the existence of the story of both movies. The urban atmosphere in this movie still portrays a gloomy atmosphere of dark, cold and dirty until people still regard the replicant as a threat to humankind. Although not directed by Ridley Scott again, I’m grateful that Denis Villeneuve very understood the first film so well that we still feel the sensations that are accurate in the first movie. Denis Villeneuve is known for his films such as Arrival, Sicario, Enemy, Prisoners, and others. His films also somehow have a uniqueness that’s different from the others. For the second series of Blade Runner, this movie is a bit lost its thrilling nuance. It’s not the same as the first movie that makes the all of the audience very confused so don’t want to watch for the second time anymore. I can say that this is a movie that will change some prospective filmmakers. Its beauty is so satisfying, its cinematography, and all of such things. There will be no more movies like this at the end of 2017 even for the future, it will be very rare to find movies like this.

Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

For the second series of Blade Runner, Ryan Gosling is the main actor of this movie. I can’t get rid of his figure after watching La La Land from romance to a serious movie. The character that played by Ryan Gosling is a character who makes a pity for him. ‘K’ is someone who has to learn a variety of emotions especially in uncovering a mystery to find who exactly he is. This character is like someone who doesn’t care about people around him because he’s considered a replicant by humans in that city. Therefore, ‘K’ always accompany him with an AI Joi. For the performance of Ryan Gosling somewhat it’s interesting to watch if this movie is a thriller, it may be difficult to get used to. Harrison Ford who played as Rick Deckard also has a performed satisfactorily despite his age of inadequacy, he was still able to do even with many physical action scenes. What I like about this sequel is the movie approximately described in detail while the first movie it’s so difficult to understand. The opening scene is also an actor from one of the WWE wrestlers, Dave Bautista a.k.a Batista who played Sapper Morton even though his role here is so short. Jared Leto who played as Niander Wallace is also very good here but for some reason, this character always appears and disappears just like that but he will be the main point of the plot-twist in the story.

Harrison Ford in Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Just like the first series, Blade Runner 2049 will make you bored with this movie and the duration is also almost three hours. So, this movie isn’t for everyone. Although like that, this movie is more alive than the first series for me. I don’t know why but it’s certain that many people will not feel satisfied when watching this movie in the cinema. But, I just wonder the nuance of the noir that feels lost little by little although there are still one. But, this movie relies more on the plot-twist at the end of the movie although the plot-twist is not too elegant, this will be the core of the main story after you wonder if Rick Deckard is a replicant or a human being. The lack here is that there are so many scenes, dialogues, and angle camera that I find less important to watch so we can’t remember all the important dialogues because they are forgotten by these unimportant elements. But I admit it with its cinematography and visual effects that are so beautifully built for sci-fi movies like this. It’s so full of emotion, the story that keeps developing and it explained slowly but surely so it will make any sense to answer the questions of you big fans of Blade Runner.

Overall, I suggest now for those who haven’t watched the Blade Runner franchise, you should watch it now. No movies are as beautiful as Blade Runner. I’m speechless about this movie and I don’t know what I want to say. The cinematography from Denis Villeneuve and the visual effects that so satisfy the eyes of the audience so that we sometimes don’t feel bored with its beauty of the world from the dark side. Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford are actors who show their performance with the utmost, a fully emotionally constructed character, and a plot-twist that you can’t imagine.

Movie – Chinatown [REVIEW] – You Get Close To Each Other, Maybe You Even Get Close To The Truth

IMDB Rating: 8,2/10
Genre: Drama, Mystery, Thriller
Director: Roman Polanski
Writer: Robert Towne
Stars: Jack NicholsonFaye DunawayJohn Huston

One more thriller movie with plot-twist I like the most. Chinatown is a crime movie directed by Roman Polanski and written by Robert Towne. Starring Jack Nicholson, Chinatown is a thriller movie that somehow so cleverly scripted by Robert Towne. Nothing wrong if he won an Oscar award in the category of Best Writing, Original Screenplay. Chinatown is also one of the first movies I’ve ever watched from Roman Polanski. His directing style is also very different from the others, the music is full of elements of tension like a thriller movie and the memorable feel of horror inside. But is Chinatown the best Roman Polanski movie?

“Chinatown,” tells about a private detective J.J. Gittes (Jack Nicholson) was paid by a woman Ida Sessions (Diane Ladd) to investigate her husband Hollis Mulwray (Darrell Zwerling) who is the head of the water and power department in Los Angeles. During his investigation, J.J. Gittes managed to get a photo of Hollis Mulwray was making out with a woman suspected of being an affair. The next day, the photo appeared on the front page of the newspaper and J.J. Gittes was suddenly visited by Evelyn Mulwray (Faye Dunaway) who turned out to be Hollis Mulwray’s real wife. Gittes then continued the case and later found Hollis Mulwray dead. Gittes was later trapped in a net against which murder, corruption. and incest in this case.

Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway in Chinatown (1974)

For the synopsis of this movie, maybe some people are somewhat difficult to understand what happened or some will also understand. What I admit from this movie is a script written by Robert Towne himself. Each scene is always prepared plot-twist, even though small plot twist and unpredictable twist. The twist in Chinatown is not a cheap twist that’s predictable, but it’s a smart surprisingly written by Robert Towne. Chinatown is also one of the most thriller movies that use neo-noir elements in the form of the dark side of a city and human. The issues that occurred in Los Angeles were a corruption, rape, murder, and other dangerous things that happened in the 70s. It also has a strong evidence that the end of the film will be found in one place in Chinatown and its last line quote that’s very legendary and memorable once in every person who watches it’s, “Forget it, Jake It’s Chinatown.” At the time of this quote is mentioned, I immediately feel like amazed during see this movie and immediately understand what really happened in this movie. It’s amazing with the directing of Roman Polanski. By the way, he also becomes a cameo in this movie and you can guess it.

Jack Nicholson and John Huston in Chinatown (1974)

The actors who appear in this movie are also brilliant apart from the very brilliantly written scripts as well. Jack Nicholson who plays J.J. Gittes and Faye Dunaway who plays Evelyn Mulwray. They both received an Oscar nomination in the Best Actor in a Leading Role won by Art Carney from Harry and Tonto and Best Actress in a Leading Role won by Ellen Burstyn from Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. I’ve often seen Jack Nicholson always brings his character that always has its own unique side. Call it One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest which is the best acting ever played from all of his movies. In this movie, his character looks like a bad guy outside. But inside, he is someone who still has sympathy and empathy towards others. As with Chinatown, he plays his character here quite similar to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He is the actor who always gets Oscar nominations every decade.

Overall, Chinatown is a neo-noir movie that must be watched by you who really like a thriller or crime movie. With a script written so smartly by Robert Towne, Chinatown always shows us a plot-twist in every scene. Especially with Hollywood actors that very famous because of his acting, this movie adds nuance. The music in this movie also has a very nuanced tension and fear.

Manhwa – Ghost Teller [REVIEW] – Much More Terrifying Than Ghosts

Webtoon Rating: 9,78
Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural
Author: QTT

I’ve known a lot about this manhwa for a long time. I’ve been reading it for some time but somehow, I dropped this comic. However, today I read this comic marathon and this manhwa brings the further experience of what’s more frightening than humans. First of all, maybe some people think that this comic is a horror comic that contains jumpscare ghosts that have become a taboo thing. However, this is not another horror comic but this is a more frightening, more painful, more annoying story than a monster or a ghost.

“Ghost Teller,” tells about a ghostly world filled with a group of ghosts who love to tell the horror stories of the true personality of humans. These ghosts will tell the most horrible story of the secret behind the human and more sinister than the ghosts.

So essentially, the story in this comic will often alternate about what they will tell. A group of these ghosts will tell alternately about the story of the original nature of the man and will be even more sinister. Therefore, this comic actually is not too transfixed with the synopsis. The plot will be told live in turns, character differences in each story, and the time difference and background used. The point is a story time before going to sleep. Indeed this comic is a bit difficult to explain why this comic has no core story at all but to answer that question, you have to read it.

Each storytelling will have a different story that sometimes according to this storyteller address. They told of a bitter and painful experience of how the human walks it. Betrayal, duplicity, selfishness, oppression, and all sorts of deadly sins of human beings. All of it has its own phase. One more thing about this comic that can say is great to read that sometimes this storytelling contains plot-twist that cannot be guessed. Sometimes we guess who the criminals are in this story and what will happen next. In essence, every story that told about this always makes me tense and scared but how the ending of the story is. The character development is also not really told in detail and it seems there are some who missed. Therefore, the author gives a good news about this comic that he will make the second season. The first season alone has made me shake but this sense of satisfaction can’t be lost because of is just 38 chapter. However, I always appreciate and give thanks to what the author has given to his fans.

Overall, Ghost Teller is a horror comic that does not tell a story about ghosts and everything. But this is an interesting story about the original nature of man. Sometimes, humans always blame ghosts for just that very reason and are afraid of a ghost. However, they sometimes do not realize that they are worse than ghosts even worse than monsters. Ghost Teller is a manhwa that must be read by you horror and thriller fans.
