Reservoir Dogs

Movie – Premium Rush [REVIEW] – Ride Like Hell

IMDB Rating: 6,5/10
Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller
Director: David Koepp
Writer: John Kamps
Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Dania Ramirez

How about a movie that’s about someone who’s being chased by the police and using a bicycle? Perhaps, it is very rare to get a movie like that. But this movie says “no”. Someone who used a bicycle while he was chased again by police on the highway. Moreover, if riding fixie bikes are pretty hard. I once rode a fixie bike and it was pretty hard for a regular bike. Moreover, if the speed can be up to 5-6 gear.

Hero

Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a bike courier in Manhattan. A bicycle courier service is needed in Manhattan because an item can deliver up very quickly and immediately. Wilee is very different from other couriers. If some bike couriers use bikes with 5 to 6 gear with brakes, Wilee prefers Fixie bikes with gear 1 without brakes but has a great speed. Passing urban Manhattan at incredible speed, Wilee suddenly receives a mysterious package requested by his ex-friend named Nima (Jamie Chung). Wilee was even being chased by a corrupt policeman named Bobby Monday (Michael Shannon) to hand his an envelope.

This film is very clear because it focuses on the Thriller genre filled with scenes of the chase. The only difference, the theme he raised about a bicycle courier who was chased by the police. When compared to fixie bikes with mountain bikes, I better choose mountain bikes. The fixie bike requires us to pedal the bike incessantly, while the mountain bikes are not. In this film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt shows his skill how a person is pedaling a bicycle with wind speeds to avoid using brakes.

Wilee

This film has a very dark impression and very bleak like other Thriller movies. Cinematography used is High-key lighting, style with very bright and bright depiction. Due to the high-key lighting, the aura of the Thriller film is not felt at all. However, David Koepp managed to set the course of the film to be very tense for the audience. The use of the camera is also very smooth when following the fast speed of movement Wilee so that the audience will be carried as if was on a bicycle as well.

Premium Rush uses a nonlinear storyline. The plot is what makes this film also has a little thriller sensation. The audience will initially be shown a scene where Wilee crashed into a taxi and was badly injured. Since then, the story will reverse how Wilee got caught in the event. The storyline of this film is very similar to Reservoir Dogs or other non-linear films. But I can say this movie is very similar to Reservoir Dogs.

Car

Overall, for you Action-Thriller fans I would suggest watching this movie. Especially for fans who really like the nonlinear film. The film is also arguably still has shortcomings, especially the storyline that looks simple. However, his cinematography masks the deficiency. So, this movie is very interesting and entertaining to watch.

Movie – Pulp Fiction [REVIEW] – I Don’t Smile For Pictures

IMDB Rating: 8,9/10
Genre: Crime, Drama
Director: Quentin Tarantino
Writer: Roger Avary
Stars: John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson

During this time, only a few Quentin Tarantino movies I watched like Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol. 01, and this movie is also included. But, this is a masterpiece made by an intelligent director. How?

Travolta & Jackson

“Pulp Fiction,” tells about of two hitmen (Samuel L. Jackson & John Travolta), Mafia boss (Ving Rhames) and his wife (Uma Thurman), a boxer (Bruce Willis), and two novice robbers (Tim Roth & Amanda Plummer).

Actually, it’s very short to explain what’s going on in this movie. In fact, the description is too short to write. But, what makes this film so masterpiece? For some reason, this movie won a lot of awards like Academy Awards USA in category “Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen,” Golden Globes USA in category “Best Screenplay – Motion Picture,” BAFTA Awards in category “Best Actor in a Supporting Role,” and “Best Screenplay – Original.” This film also beat the best film, Forrest Gump and many people are mad at that fact. I feel sorry after for 23 years just found out if there is a movie like this in that year. Same goes with Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, and other classic movies.

John

One of the uniqueness of this film is the plot of the film that runs in nonlinear. Just like Memento, Pulp Fiction is divided into several parts and runs in a row. However, the film isn’t so confusing to watch. In general, Pulp Fiction is only divided into three parts. This movie seemed to cause the prejudice to be a sense of shock but amazing.

The characters in this movie look very common in general like hitmen, a mafia boss, the mafia wife, robbers, and boxers. However, the script created by Roger Avary and Quentin Tarantino incorporates elements of dark-comedy in each character. Like a boxer rushed by a mob boss but that mob boss was kidnapped by gay, a careless assassin, a mercenary who often quotes some gospel, mafia wife who has a hobby-dancing, so much more. Who knows how many dark-comedy’s in this movie. Quentin Tarantino also didn’t hesitate to feature many famous actors such as John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, and Tim Roth.

Uma Thurman

This movie isn’t like other gangster movies. When compared to the famous gangster movies like The Godfather, Goodfellas, Scarface, or others, you’re wrong. Pulp Fiction isn’t like a gangster movie that many scenes shoot each other. Precisely, Pulp Fiction brings a lot of cool dialogue and some kick-ass. This film is very difficult to explain. Maybe, you better watch it so maybe you can understand.

English, Motherfucker

Overall, if you want to see a scene where the main character performs a full adrenaline or visual effect or something like that, Pulp Fiction doesn’t show something like that. Pulp Fiction is a masterpiece that shows the ins and outs of gangsters with very different perspective. This film is also included in the film that affects the world of cinema.

Movie – Reservoir Dogs [REVIEW] – The Quentin Tarantino Debut

IMDB Rating: 8,3/10
Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller
Director: Quentin Tarantino
Writer: Quentin Tarantino
Stars: Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen

Quentin Tarantino is known for a very genius-man. By introducing non-linear films that incorporate a dark-comedy, soundtrack that we often hear everywhere, violent scenes with blood everywhere, and some other things that he owns. This film is the first debut film of Quentin Tarantino and plays it also in it. Tarantino loves to present some great actors like Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman.

Reservoir Dogs

“Reservoir Dogs,” tells about eight men who were breakfast while talking about the song “Like A Virgin” by Madonna. Six of the eight are unknown and have only an alias name that is Mr. White (Harvey Keitel), Mr. Orange (Tim Roth), Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen), Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi), Mr. Blue (Eddie Bunker), and Mr. Brown (Quentin Tarantino). Two others are Joe Cabot (Lawrence Tiemey) and his son “Nice Guy” Eddie (Chris Penn). They plan to rob a diamond shop at the behest of Joe Cabot. After interspersed slow motion scene as an introduction to his character, we will begin to be invited to watch the non-linear plot of Tarantino. No scenes of robbery even audiences invited directly to see Mr. White and Mr. Orange is badly injured by being shot into a warehouse where they gather. From there the audience can find out that robberies don’t match what they are planning. After that, come Mr. Pink, who believes that one of them betrayed and leaked the robbery to the police. Then, start a scene of suspicion and anxiety between them.

Tarantino is great at putting together his story plot because he also slipped a sort of flashback that was divided into three parts: Mr. White, Mr. Blonde, and Mr. Orange. Each of them tells the background of each character and how they can join. Reservoir Dogs store many of the most memorable scenes so people can remember. One of them is the slow motion scene which is the coolest scene. Michael Madsen also performed best on this movie because some of his scenes that tortured the police were crazy.

As I said, robbery isn’t shown at all. So, the audience can only imagine what happened and how chaotic the robbery. The main highlight of this film is also a debate that occurs because of mutual suspicion. This film also is filled with many surprises that can actually be created as a debt and easy to remember.

Behind the scene of violence, this film also has elements of friendship and loyalty is very thick where the human conscience is always selfish. Even within the group, there is a conflicting dilemma. “Reservoir Dogs” is the first work of Tarantino’s debut and also as a film that makes a masterpiece entitled “Pulp Fiction”. Actually, the Tarantino movies I’ve watched so far are Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, and Kill Bill Series.
