After the success of the two-season anime series and some game titles adapted, this time in 2017 will be present an adaptation of animated films. This Reki Kawahara work’s aired in so many various countries, including Indonesia. The story in this film is also directly written by Reki Kawahara and Tomohiko Ito again directed this film which previously also directed 2 seasons of Sword Art Online.
4 years passed after the incident Sword Art Online, the Japanese people loved the presence of a new device called AUGMA that using Augmented Reality. The workings of this device are unique because it can be used anywhere with a function as a medium of communication, entertainment, and play games. In this device, there is also a MMORPG game named Ordinal Scale. Kirito and his friends didn’t want to miss trying the game. But while others get used to the game, Kirito still cannot be fully interested in the Ordinal Scale because it claims to be more comfortable playing VR than AR. One day, Ordinal Scale presents an event featuring boss monsters from Sword Art Online. Amid the presence of various monsters from Aincrad, the presence of a virtual idol named Yuna and also the 2nd ranked Ordinal Scale named Eiji opened a mystery of Ordinal Scale and also the tragedy of Sword Art Online.
I just admit it this Sword Art Online movie is better than the previous 2 seasons. In my opinion, there are so many interesting things that we can see in this movie although the core story is still related to the tragedy of Sword Art Online. SAO Movie: Ordinal Scale is an anime that produces a very new story but still has a relationship with SAO in both anime and light novels.
Sword Art Online Movie: Ordinal Scale also presents a stunning visual that uses a 3D structure with an opening from Aincrad tower building which originally became the background of SAO. It is impossible if the 2D animation isn’t in this movie because it is also something that is its own appeal in terms of visual. The 2D animation in this movie comes with a very riveting. Various kinds of animations are very smooth to flashy and filled with a very tense fighting scene that makes Ordinal Scale can give the impression of exciting in this film. Instead, the character’s design is also improved in such detail such as the characters of both Kirito and his friends.
This film also brings a very far different from SAO, ALO, and GGO. Players who use Ordinal Scale are required to move their own bodies, running in reality and swinging weapons. Therefore, Ordinal Scale brings all its players to play natural, following the player’s body movements. For Kirito, he prefers VR-based physical movements determined by player status compared to AR requiring to move his own body.
Like the Sword Art Online anime, it also brings a feeling of drama and romance that makes some development of the characters. But this romance story is not only Kirito and Asuna alone, but the story of Eiji drama with the virtual idol Yuna as a new character in the introduction in this film. Of all the character development, Yuna has interesting points. Although she is an AI program, Yuna is based on deep-learning technology that makes Yuna look like a human with other players. Yuna here is also the main story for this movie.
Overall, this movie is quite suitable to watch by all teenagers either SAO fans, action anime fans, MMORPG, or even for those of you who don’t like anime can also watch it. The animation shown does look quite interesting. By the way, the last ending song performed by LiSA is good enough to be heard. Also, a surprise is prepared in the after-credit section of this film.
